#YTSummer in Reykjavik: Call For Journalists and Young Media Enthusiasts

The Youth Time International Movement is officially inviting journalists and young media enthusiasts to apply for the Youth International Summer School, which will take place in Reykjavik, Iceland from the 25th to the 30th of June, 2020. Deadline to apply is March 10th.

What is the Summer School about?

The theme this year is: Future Skills for Workplace Sustainability: Preparing for Transition.
Technology and Innovation has already brought great change to the job marketplace leading to a disruption of the skills that are needed. Not only is this happening now, but it is happening rapidly, and it is continuing to evolve on a near daily basis with the introduction of robotic automation, technical innovations and digitalization set to cost millions of jobs worldwide. The International Youth Summer School in Iceland will help to prepare youth for the future possible changes. We will learn and analyze the most influential trends of the development in different areas of the worldwide society and what the future map of skills, education and training for sustainable future global development will be. We will study how to avoid becoming an obsolete figure in an ever-developing world and explore new ways to ensure the role of youth as working professionals remains sustainable.

This summer school is organized in partnership with the University of Iceland. It will gather together nearly 60 participants, experts and trainers from all over the world with the aim of discussing ideas and solutions to some of the most prevalent youth issues.

Who can apply to the journalists and media enthusiasts call?

Storytellers, bloggers/vloggers, digital media activists, online freelance reporters and anyone who works as a journalist in the media industry from around the world.

What are the main criteria for all?

Everyone who is applying must accept a commitment to produce at least two media pieces both before and after the forum. They must also possess fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal.

Additional criteria for journalists:

  • Current employment in national or international media (newspaper, magazine, news agency, TV, radio, or news portal).

Journalists will be asked to provide the following: 

  • Filled in online application form;
  • Examples of previous works;
  • A letter of support from an editor or newsroom manager endorsing the journalist’s participation in the program and support for publishing, posting and/or broadcasting the journalist’s coverage of the conference.

Additional criteria for the freelance media enthusiasts:

  • To have active and regularly updated Social Media account, blog platform etc.;
  • Significant experience in creating multimedia content and deep understanding of what makes a good online story.

Freelance media enthusiasts will be asked to provide the following:

Funding

Fully and partially funded reporting fellowships will be offered for media people who will be selected to take part in the event. Fully funded fellowships will cover: travel to and from Reykjavik, accommodation, meals, program including informal activities and transportation during the event. Partially funded fellowships will not include reimbursement for travel to Reykjavik. Local journalists are welcome to apply too!

How to get selected?

Selection for the fellowships will be based on the professional qualifications, relevant experience such as demonstrated interest in the topic of the Summer School and level of input in promotion of application call for participants. Selection process for journalists and bloggers will be organized in two rounds, the second round will involve promotion of application call for participants.

Please note, that the theme of International Youth Summer School is not related to journalism or media. Young journalists and bloggers are invited to take part in the event to hone reporting skills. During Summer School you can dive deep into professional working environment of an international event and create write-ups from various workshops and master-classes, interview prominent guests, as well as benefit from the great networking opportunities offered by Youth Time.
