Under the auspices of the Youth Time project “Education of my dream” Youth Time and Economix (CZ) organized an Open Lecture by Ing. Miroslav Kalousek on May 27th at the University of Economics in Prague. The lecture focused on the theme “Steps that will lead to stabilization of public budgets”. Ing. Miroslav Kalousek is a Czech politician, founder and first Vice of TOP 09 (one of the leading political parties in the Czech Republic). From 2007 – 2009 he was Minister of Finance of the Czech Republic.
The beginning of the lecture, Miroslav Klousek devoted to defence policy and reducing the budget deficit. After a brief explanation of the causes of the recent debt, the financial and economic crises, he analyzed two approaches to sovereign debt, which were discussed during the crisis.
Another part of the discussion was devoted to the possibility of reducing the structural deficit. He spoke mainly of expenditure on old-age pensions and healthcare, the two parts of the state budget in which you can save and which also forms a significant part of public expenditure.
In the ensuing discussion of more than an hour Mr Kalousek responded to a multitude of questions. He supported the adoption of the euro, which he likened to a marriage contract — has its advantages but also considerable costs. Other questions were directed to pension reform, spending on the military and current affairs in Ukraine..
